The Penelope Dress in Orange Maple Leaf

The Penelope Dress brings together the graphic beauty of American patchwork and the centuries-old craft of traditional Indian hand block printing.

For this edition, our Maple Leaf motif is individually hand block printed in India using a hand-carved wooden block and a softly faded yam-orange dye. Inspired by the geometry of pieced American quilts, the repeating maple leaves create a bold, rhythmic pattern across natural cotton while retaining the subtle variations that can only come from printing each impression by hand.

Those small shifts in color, pressure, and placement are part of what we love most about the process. Rather than creating a perfectly uniform printed textile, hand blocking leaves evidence of the hands that made it, giving every dress its own character and the feeling of an heirloom textile from the very beginning.

The Penelope itself is designed to be equally adaptable. An adjustable drawstring neckline can be gathered higher or relaxed into a deeper scoop, while a long row of hook-and-eye closures extends down the center front. Wear them completely closed or open the lower closures to create a slit at whatever height feels right.

A lightweight cotton batiste lining extends to the knee for breathable coverage, while softly gathered puff sleeves and three generous tiers create the long, sweeping silhouette.

Warm, earthy and unmistakably autumnal, the faded yam-orange Maple Leaf print was made for the changing season, but with the hope that it will be worn and kept for many seasons beyond it.
